Objective To investigate the mechanism that Amlodipine inhibits the invasion of human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231.     Methods MDA-MB-231 cells was treated by 8.34 μmol/L Amlodipine for 72 h. The invasion activity of MDA-MB-231 cells was evaluated by using Transwell chambers attached with polycarbonate filters and reconstituted basement membrane (Matrigel). The expressions of MMP-9 and VEGF in MDA-MB-231 cells were examined by immunohistochemistry.    Results Amlodipine significantly inhibited the invasion activity of MDA-MB-231 cells

and the inhibitory rate was (36.27±6.39)%. The expressions of MMP-9 and VEGF in MDA-MB-231 cells decreased obviously by Amlodipine.   Conclusion Amlodipine exhibits the invasion activity of breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 and it is related to the reduction of MMP-9 and VEGF expressions.
