Objective    To evaluate the outcome of subtotal colectomy for slow transit constipation (STC) and the modified subtotal colectomy for STC combined with outlet obstruction constipation (OOC).     Methods    Forty-six patients underwent subtotal colectomy for STC

among whom 32 patients with OOC received modified subtotal colectomy. All patients were given a questionnaire regarding postoperative bowel function and their satisfaction degree after operation to judge the curative effect.     Results    Forty-three patients answered the questionnaire. difficult defecation in 6. Forty-one patients were satisfied with the curative effect (satisfaction rate was 93.5%).      Conclusion    Subtotal colectomy is effective for STC. Our modified subtotal colectomy for STC combined with OOC achieved a good result.
