Objective To report the limb salvage surgery for lower extremity with major blood vessels invaded by tumors. Methods Two patients
with major vessels of extremity were invaded by tumor
were included. Case one
male
40 years old
a ball-like mass about 102 cm×72 cm×45 cm on the left leg
occupying from the inferior abdomen to the knee
which was diagnosed as sarcoenchondroma. Case two
female
63 years old
a mass about 50 cm×30 cm×26 cm on the left leg
from the left inferior abdomen to the knee
diagnosed as liposarcoma. Before operation
Doppler ultrasonography and CT examination or MRI scanning were used to indicate the relationship of tumor and vessels. After the tumor was removed
the arterial reconstructions were performed by using great saphenous vein allograft. Results After surgical treatment
the blood circulation and nervous function of the left legs of the two patients were basically normal. The two patients were followed up for 12 or 22 months respectively
and no tumor recurrence. Conclusion The surgical treatment for patients with malignant tumor affecting arteries is complicated. For some patients with major vessels invaded by tumor
the combination of tumor removal and major blood vessels reconstruction is a practical method.
