Objective      To introduce the experience in lobectomy with video assisted thoracicscopic surgery.       Methods       From April 1993 to September  2006 in our hospital

38 cases of primary lung cancer confirmed by pathological examinations underwent lobectomy; 17 cases of inflammatory pseudotumor

21 cases of tuberculoma

3 cases of hamartoma and 8 cases of metastatic lung cancer underwent local resection.       Results      No mortality was due to the procedure. Reoperation to stanch bleeding was performed in 2 cases  and pulmonary infection in 2 cases. All patients suffered from complications mentioned above all fully recovered and their operation time

postoperative drainage days and hospital day were shortened.       Conclusion      Lobectomy or local resection by video assisted thoracoscopic surgery has identical effect with routine thoracotomy. It is reliable and of the advantages such as less invasion

fast recovery and fewer complications

but its indications should be strictly followed.
