Research on the application of outcome-based education concept integrated with artificial intelligence tools in teaching clinic model of standardized training for pediatric residents
To explore the application of the outcome-based education (OBE) concept integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the teaching clinic model of standardized training for pediatric residents.
Methods
2
A total of 72 second- and third-year resident physicians who rotated in the teaching clinic of the standardized residency training base for internal pediatrics at Hunan Children's Hospital from June 2024 to June 2025 were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group
with 36 residents in each group. The experimental group received teaching clinic instruction based on the OBE concept integrated with AI tools
while the control group received conventional teaching clinic instruction. The two groups were compared in terms of mini-clinical evaluation exercise (Mini-CEX) scores before and after rotation
theoretical and skill examination scores at the end of rotation
and teaching satisfaction. SPSS 27.0 was used to perform the
t
-test
Mann-Whitney
U
test
and chi-square test.
Results
2
There were no significant differences in the total Mini-CEX score and scores of all dimensions before rotation between the two groups (
P
>
0.05). After rotation
the total Mini-CEX score and scores of all dimensions (history taking
physical examination
humanistic care
clinical judgment
communication skills
organizational effectiveness
and overall performance) were higher in the experimental group than those in the control group (
P
<
0.05). The theoretical examination score at the end of rotation was lower in the experimental group than in the control group (86.17±3.55 vs. 87.83±3.37
P
=0.045)
with a statistically significant difference (
P
<
0.05); the skill examination score was higher in the experimental group than in the control group (84.12±2.94 vs. 83.
90±5.12
P
=0.824)
but the difference was not significant (
P
>
0.05). Teaching satisfaction was significantly higher in the experimental group than that in the control group (
P
<
0.05).
Conclusions
2
The teaching clinic model based on the OBE concept integrated with AI tools is an innovative teaching model that is learner-centered and outcome-oriented
and can effectively improve the core competencies of pediatric residents in standardized residency training.
