Construction and application of a radiation protection teaching management system for medical students in radiation facilities
To establish a radiation protection teaching management system for medical students in radiation facilities and evaluate its application effectiveness.
Methods
2
A total of 80 medical students who rotated at the radiation facilities of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from December 2022 to June 2024 were selected as study participants. Through interdepartmental collaboration
a radiation protection teaching management team was formed. Using group discussions
a teaching plan and management measures were developed to establish a radiation protection teaching management system for medical students encompassing three dimensions: management team
teaching plan
and management measures. Before and after the implementation of the teaching management system
the professional exam scores
the knowledge
attitudes
and behaviors regarding radiation protection
and the satisfaction of the 80 medical students were investigated
and a self-controlled before-and-after design was used for comparison.
Results
2
After application of the radiation protection teaching management system
the knowledge
attitudes
and behaviors of medical students regarding radiation protection significantly improved (
P
<
0.05). Specifically
the awareness rate of basic radiation protection principles increased from 51.25% to 87.50%
the awareness rate of personal dose monitoring cycles increased from 50.00% to 91.25%
and the awareness rate of radiation safety laws and regulations increased from 45.00% to 81.25%. In terms of satisfaction
the median score for interpersonal relationship satisfaction increased from 4 (4
5) to 5 (4
5) (
P
=0.001)
the median score for radiation protection training satisfaction increased from 4 (4
5) to 5 (5
5) (
P
<
0.001)
and the satisfaction with various dimensions such as protective equipment and radiation environment facilities
also improved significantly (
P
<
0.05).
Conclusions
2
The radiation protection teaching management system for medical students established in this study is the first to incorporate medical students into the management standards for radiation workers. It effectively improves the knowledge
attitudes
and behaviors of medical students regarding radiation protection and their satisfaction
standardizes their radiation protection behaviors
and enhances their radiation safety protection capabilities in clinical practice. This system provides a reference for the radiological teaching practice and management of medical students in radiation facilities at teaching hospitals.
