Analysis of the application effects of virtual reality combined with motion capture technology in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training
To investigate the impact of applying virtual reality (VR) combined with optical motion capture (OMC) technology to the skill training of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) on the teaching effect among medical students.
Methods
2
A total of 60 students majoring in clinical medicine from the 2020 grade of Inner Mongolia Medical University were enrolled as study subjects. They were divided into traditional teaching group and VR+OMC teaching group
with 30 students in each group. All students received unified theoretical training followed by practical operation training by group. Examinations were administered immediately
1 month
and 6 months post-training
and the results were statistically analyzed.
Results
2
There was no significant difference in the scores between the two groups in the examinations held immediately and 1 month post-training. At the reassessment performed 6 months post-training
the mean score of the VR+OMC group was significantly higher than that of the traditional teaching group (76.00±4.33 vs. 71.73±5.30
t
=-3.41
P
<
0.001). The mean chest compression frequency of students in the VR+OMC group [(115.20±0.87) compressions/min
]
remained within the qualified range
while that of the traditional teaching group [(89.35±1.06) compressions/min
]
fell below the qualified range. At the assessment performed 6 months post-training
a significant difference was observed between the VR+OMC teaching group and the traditional teaching group in the mean accuracy rate of chest compression (84.00±2.89 vs. 81.16±3.54
t
=-3.41
P
<
0.001). Additionally
the VR+OMC teaching group significantly outperformed the traditional teaching group in maintaining the accuracy rate of chest compression [(93.22±1.79)% vs. (90.62±2.16)%
t
=-5.07
P
<
0.001
]
.
Conclusions
2
Based on the results of the three examinations
the mean scores of students showed a downward trend with the extension of training duration
regardless of the teaching methods. Compared with traditional teaching
the application of VR+OMC to CPR and AED training can improve teaching effectiveness and help students maintain their skills at a high level for an extended period.
