Application of cognitive interviewing in developing a Workplace Violence Help-Seeking Motivation Scale for Nursing Interns
To revise the items of the Workplace Violence Help-Seeking Motivation Scale for Nursing Interns using cognitive interviewing.
Methods
2
From August to September 2025
30 nursing interns from a tertiary Grade A hospital in Chongqing were recruited using purposive sampling to participate in three rounds of cognitive interviews. The interview data were coded using the Question Appraisal System (QAS-99)
and item revisions were made based on research team discussions and expert feedback.
Results
2
In the first round of interviews
participants raised concerns about six items
mainly involving issues of ambiguity
wording
and sensitivity. In the second round of interviews
only one item was questioned and this item was retained after discussion. In the third round of interviews
all participants agreed that the item wording was clear and no further revisions were required
and the interview process was terminated.
Conclusions
2
Cognitive interviewing can effectively identify and correct comprehension biases in the Workplace Violence Help-Seeking Motivation Scale for Nursing Interns
thus improving the applicability and scientific rigor of the scale.
