A study on learning-need topics and group characteristics of ophthalmology visiting physicians
To identify the learning-need topics of ophthalmology visiting physicians
characterize their group profiles
and to provide empirical evidence for teaching administrators to implement precision-oriented training.
Methods
2
Application data of ophthalmology visiting physicians recruited between January 2020 and December 2024 were collected from the visiting physician management system of a grade A tertiary hospital in Beijing. BERTopic was used to extract topics from the texts of learning needs. Changes in the annual proportions of these topics were analyzed according to the starting year of the visiting program. Background characteristics
including hospital grade
professional title
highest educational attainment
and training duration
together with the topic features extracted by the model
were incorporated into a Gaussian mixture model for clustering analysis.
Results
2
The topic model identified 17 learning-need topics
with differences observed in their annual proportion changes. Clustering analysis divided the visiting physicians into seven groups
each exhibiting distinct combinations of background characteristics and learning-need topics.
Conclusions
2
Based on visiting management data
the application of topic modeling and soft clustering enabled the structured identification of learning-need topics and group characteristics of specialty visiting physicians. This approach can provide support for decision-making in modular curriculum design
