Application of ADDIE model-based situational simulation teaching curricula in pediatric residency training for infection control
To explore the application effectiveness of analysis
design
development
implementation
and evaluation (ADDIE) model-based situational simulation teaching curricula in pediatric residency training for infection control.
Methods
2
Pediatric residents undergoing standardized training in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hunan Children's Hospital from May to December 2023 were selected as participants. The 2021 cohort (
n
=23) was assigned to conventional teaching group to receive conventional training
while the 2022 cohort (
n
=22) was assigned to situational simulation teaching group to receive ADDIE-based situational simulation training. Teaching effectiveness was evaluated using simulation feedback
forms. Additionally
the Kirkpatrick evaluation model was used to compare post-training reactions
knowledge and skill changes
and behavioral changes between the two groups. Continuous data were analyzed using the independent samples
t
-test or Mann-Whitney
U
test
and categorical data were analyzed using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test.
Results
2
Situational simulation teaching feedback indicated high participant satisfaction with the simulation content
organization
and practicality. The situational simulation teaching group showed significantly higher post-training satisfaction scores [33.50(32.00
35.00) vs. 30.00(28.00
31.00)
P
<
0.01
]
theoretical exam scores (89.55±3.31 vs. 84.65±4.55
P
<
0.01)
practical skill scores [92.00 (91.00
94.00) vs. 85.00(81.50
88.50)
P
<
0.01
]
and clinical performance scores (85.27±2.88 vs. 80.74±4.16
P
<
0.01). Behavioral outcomes revealed significantly higher accuracy in personal protective equipment donning and doffing [98.33%(59/60) vs. 83.33% (50/60)
P
<
0.05
]
and a significantly lower hospital-acquired infection rate [0.50%(1/200) vs. 4.00% (8/200)
P
<
0.05
]
in the situational simulation teaching group compared to the conventional group
but no difference in hand hygiene compliance between the two groups (
P
>
0.05).
Conclusions
2
The innovative integration of the ADDIE model with situational cognitive theory establishes a scientifically robust
effective
and scalable pediatric infection control training curriculum system.
