Factors influencing academic performance among first-year university students in public health-related programs: a study from the perspective of learning adaptation
To investigate the adaptation status of first-year university students in public health-related programs
and to identify the key factors and underlying mechanisms that influence their academic performance during the learning adaptation process.
Methods
2
From February to March 2025
a self-designed questionnaire was administered to undergraduate students enrolled in 2024 majoring in the Preventive Medicine as well as the Health Inspection and Quarantine programs at the School of Public Health
Chongqing Medical University. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 27.0 software
including descriptive statistics
Spearman's rank correlation coefficient analysis
multivariable linear regression analysis
and mediation effect analysis using the Process macro program.
Results
2
A total of 114 valid questionnaires were collected
the effective recovery rate is 95.00%(114/120). The multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that learning attitude (Beta=0.331
P
<
0.001) and life attitude (Beta=0.384
P
<
0.001) were significant predictors of academic performance perception. Further analysis indicated that academic p
erformance perception had a direct and significant impact on academic achievement (Beta=0.414
P
<
0.001). When academic performance perception was included in the model as a mediator
it exhibited both masking and mediating effects between academic achievement and both learning and life attitudes
forming a bidirectional and cyclical relationship.
Conclusions
2
The mindset (learning attitude and life attitude) of first-year university students influences their academic behavior (academic performance perception)
