Application of defect-based scenario simulation teaching following INACSL standards in pre- employment skill training for nursing interns
To explore and validate the application effectiveness of defect-based scenario simulation teaching in pre-employment skill training for nursing interns following the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation Learning (INACSL) standards.
Methods
2
A cluster sampling method was used to select 101 nursing undergraduates who interned at a tertiary hospital in Jilin Province between June 2022 and April 2024 as the study subjects. Among them
52 nursing undergraduates who interned from June 2022 to April 2023 were assigned to the control group
while 49 nursing undergraduates who interned from June 2023 to April 2024 were assigned to the observation group. The control group received traditional pre-employment skill training
while the observation group was trained using the defect-based scenario simulation teaching model following INACSL standards. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 27.0. The independent samples
t
-test was conducted to compare the differences between the two groups in post-training clinical skill assessment scores
satisfaction and self-confidence scores
and critical thinking ability scores. The chi-square test was used to compare the incidence of adverse events between the two groups.
Results
2
After training
the observation group achieved significantly higher clinical skill assessment scores compared to the control group [95.46 (94.54
96.46) vs. 87.29 (87.02
87.29)
P
<
0.001
]
. In terms of nursing intern satisfaction and self-confidence evaluation
the observation group scored significantly higher than the control group [satisfaction: (20.43±2.20) vs. (17.35±1.74); self-confidence: (34.92±1.75) vs. (30.90±2.31);
P
<

]
. The observation group scored significantly higher than the control group in critical thinking ability [(339.69±14.90) vs. (330.65±10.61)
P
<
0.001
]
. The number of adverse events related to nursing procedures was lower in the observation group than in the control group (1 case vs. 8 cases).
Conclusions
2
Defect-based scenario simulation teaching following INACSL standards helps improve the operational skills
satisfaction with training
self-confidence in clinical work
and critical thinking ability of nursing interns
while reducing the incidence of nursing-related adverse events.
