Empowering the teaching of basic surgical skills with artificial intelligence technology: establishment of assessment models and skill enhancement
The existing "Surgery" has issues in basic operations
such as an imbalance between traditional theoretical teaching and practical drills. Moreover
the training and evaluation mechanisms for practical teaching are not fully developed. With the continuous progress of information technology in medical education
including the application of artificial intelligence and virtual reality
video object detection and motion capture recognition technologies have been widely utilized in clinical medicine. Applying these technologies to the integrated teaching of surgical knot-tying skills can provide a standardized evaluation for the "teaching" and "learning" processes in basic practical teaching of surgery. This includes aspects such as knot-tying
incision and suture
hemostasis and ligation
and aseptic techniques.Furthermore
by analyzing and leveraging the operation data
key parameters such as the teacher's operation time
critical action frames
and smoothness can be collected. This enables the establishment of standard models for hand trajectory movements and surgical instruments
leading to the development of action recognition models and instrument recognition models for surgical knot-tying operations in basic surgical procedures. When the operation data from simulated surgical training is incorporated into these models for comprehensive analysis
the system can analyze assessment scores
surgical time
and error-prone areas in real time through an auxiliary surgical teaching system. This helps to establish teaching evaluation criteria for surgical knot-tying. The analysis and feedback provided by artificial intelligence large models can better meet the requirements of integrating teaching with practice and contribute to cultivating the basic surgical operation capabilities of clinical surgeons.
