Analysis of seasonal training injuries of faculty and staff in a military medical university during an 85 km mountain trek
To investigate the training injuries of faculty and staff (including specialized technical officers
non-ranking cadres and military civilians) in different seasons during an 85 km mountain trek
and to provide information for training medical support.
Methods
2
Data of 769 faculty and staff were collected (two treks
in 2021)
including 335 participants from the trek of March 24 to 28
2021 being assigned into the spring group
and 434 in the trek of September 22 to 26
2021 into the autumn group. A prevalence study was conducted to compare and analyze the differences in seasonal climate
clinical visit rate
proportion of kinds of injuries
incidence of kinds of injuries and number of daily visits per person.
Results
2
There were no significant differences in age and gender between the 2 groups. The temperature and humidity in the autumn group were higher than the spring group. The number of injuries in both groups was 1 392 (181.01%)
including 440 in the spring group (131.34%) and 952 in the autumn group (219.35%). The clinical visit rate in the autumn group was significantly higher than those in the spring group. Sports injury and blister were accounted for the highest p
roportion in all injuries
41.13% and 23.86% in the spring group and 25.11% and 16.07% in the autumn group
respectively. The incidences of sports injury and blister were 54.03% and 31.34% in spring group and 55.07% and 35.25% in autumn group
respectively. There were no significant difference of the incidences of sports injury and blister between two groups. The incidences of upper respiratory tract infection and allergic diseases in the spring group were higher than those in the autumn group (
P
<
0.05)
while the incidences of dizziness
rash
abrasions
diarrhea
constipation
insect bite and hypoglycemia in the autumn group were higher than those in the spring group (
P
<
0.05). There were no differences in the incidences of syncope and gastritis between the two groups (
P
>
0.05). The number of daily visits per person in the autumn group was significantly higher than that in the spring group.
Conclusion
2
Sports injury and blister are the major kinds of injuries in this mountain trek. There are significant differences in the incidence of some injuries
clinical visit rate
and number of daily visits per person with different seasonal conditions. The training medical support should be planed according to the different seasonal climatic conditions.
