Relationship of state-trait depression with emotion regulation style and childhood trauma in new recruits with left-behind experiences
To investigate the relationship of state-trait depression with emotion regulation style and childhood trauma in new recruits with left-behind experiences.
Methods
2
State-Trait Depression Scale (STDEP)
Childhood Trauma Questionaire-28 item Short (CTQ-SF) and Armymen's Emotion Regulation Types Questionnaire (AERTQ) were adopted to survey 3 736 new recruits from 5 units.
Results
2
① The recruits with left-behind experiences had significant higher scores in state depression and trait depression
total score of CTQ-SF
and scores of 4 factors (physical neglect
emotional neglect
physical abuse and emotional abuse)
and score of behavior-restrain when compared with those without such experiences (
P
<
0.01). ②Positive correlation was found in the scores of state depression and trait depression with the total score of CTQ-SF
scores of behavior-restrain and each factors of CTQ-SF (
r
=0.229~0.921
P
<
0.01)
but negative correlation was seen with self-comfort and affective-appeal (
r
=-0.077
-0.130
P
<
0.01). The score of state depression was also positively correlated with the score of trait depression (
r
=0.921
P
<
0.01). ③Trait depression
total score of CTQ-SF and behavior-restrain were important predictors for state depression in the recruits with left-behind experiences
and could explain 85.6% of the total variance. The 2 factors (physical abuse and sexual abuse) of CTQ-SF and the 3 factors (affective-appeal
behavior-restrain and self-
comfort) of AERTQ were important predictors for the total score of trait depression for them
and could explain 30.70% of the total variance.
Conclusion
2
More attention should be paid to the characteristics of depression in the new recruits with left-behind experiences. Understanding their experiences and guiding effective ways of emotional catharsis may be helpful to maintain mental health and promote emotional regulation styles in them.
