Therapeutic effect of camostat in a mouse model of acute pancreatitis
A mouse model of acute pancreatitis was established by intraperitoneal injection of cerulein and treated with camostat (camostat treatment group) or normal saline (model group) administered by oral gavage
with mice receiving both intraperitoneal injection and oral gavage of saline serving as the control group. The changes in the behaviors
serum amylase levels
pancreas/body weight ratio and pancreas histology of the mice were observed after the treatment to evaluate the changes in the inflammation.
Results
2
Compared with the mice in the model group
the mice in camostat treatment group showed significantly lowered pancreas/body weight ratio and serum amylase level with obviously alleviated pancreatic edema
necrosis and inflammatory cell infiltration. No significant difference was found in pancreas/body ratio or serum amylase between camostat treatment group and the control group.
Conclusion
2
In the mouse model of cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis
camostat treatment alleviates the inflammation by inhibiting trypsin activity
which highlights the role of trypsin in the process of acute pancreatitis.
