Correlation of rs2200733 polymorphism with atrial fibrillation, pulmonary vein size and recurrence after isolation
To investigate the potential association of rs2200733 polymorphism with recurrence of atrial fibrillation after pulmonary vein isolation.
Methods
2
A total of 207 patients admitted in the department of cardiology from 4 Class A Grade 3 hospitals in Chongqing city during July 2009 to December 2010 were recruited in this study. They were 114 males and 93 females
at a mean age of 60.8±10.7 years and a mean BMI of 24.2±3.9 kg/m
2
. They were divided into atrial fibrillation group (
n
=100) and control group (without the history of atrial fibrillation
n
=107). The clinical data were collected. And venous blood samples were harvested for rs2200733 polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length p
olymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and gene sequencing. Forty patients undergoing pulmonary vein isolation were followed up to analyze the risk factors for AF recurrence by survival analysis.
Results
2
① The atrial fibrillation group had significant higher genotype frequency of CT than the control group (75.0%
vs
61.7%
P
<
0.05). ② In them
those carrying CT genotype had larger pulmonary vein diameter than the patients with TT/CC (
P
<
0.05). ③ In the 40 patients with follow-up
early recurrence of atrial fibrillation was observed in 11 cases (27.5%)
whereas late recurrence occurred in 9 cases (22.5%). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that the genotypes of rs2200733 polymorphism had no significant association with atrial fibrillation recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (
Chi
-square=1.076
P
>
0.05). Front and rear diameter of left superior pulmonary vein larger than 17.45 mm (
Chi
-square=33.089
P
<
0.05)
upper and lower diameter of left superior pulmonary vein larger than 17.50 mm (
Chi
-square=32.189
P
<
0.05)
front and rear diameter of the right superior pulmonary vein larger than 18.60 mm (
Chi
-square=34.264
P
<
0.05)
front and rear diameter of right inferior pulmonary vein larger than 16.30mm (
Chi
-square=13.546
P
<
0.05)
and upper and lower diameter of right inferior pulmonary vein larger than 16.70 mm (
Chi
-square=14.870
P
<
0.05) were the risk factors for AF recurrence.
Conclusion
2
CT genotype in rs2200733 polymorphism may promote pulmonary vein enlargement
and is a risk factor for AF recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation.
