Efficacy of breast-conserving surgery and modified radical mastectomy combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in treatment of breast cancer
To explore the efficacy of breast-conserving surgery and modified radical mastectomy combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer.
Methods
2
A retrospective study was conducted on the clinical data of 200 female breast cancer patients who received breast-conserving surgery or modified radical mastectomy combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in our hospital. According to the surgical plan, the patients were divided into the breast-conserving surgery group (92 cases) and the radical mastectomy group (108 cases). Patients in the breast-conserving surgery group received breast-conserving surgery combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, while patients in the radical mastectomy group received modified radical mastectomy combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The surgical indicators, serum tumor markers, quality of life, progression-free survival and complications of patients between the two groups were compared.
Results
2
Compared with the radical mastectomy group, the intraoperative blood loss of patients in the breast-conserving surgery group was reduced, the drainage time of the drainage tube and the hospital stay were shortened, and the differences were statistically significant (
P
<
0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125), carbohydrate antigen 153 (CA153), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) between the two groups of patients 3 months after treatment (
P
>
0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the scores of each dimension of the SF-36 scale between the two groups of patients 12 months after treatment (
P
>
0.05). The median progression-free survivals of patients in the breast-conserving surgery group and the radical mastectomy group were 56 months (95%
CI
: 50.18 to 61.82) and 64 months (95%
CI
: 44.15 to 83.86), respectively, and the difference was not statistically significant (
P
>
0.05). The total incidence of postoperative complications in the breast-conserving surgery group was lower than that in the radical mastectomy group (
P
<
0.05).
Conclusion
2
Breast-conserving surgery or modified radical mastectomy combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy has similar efficacy in the treatment of breast cancer patients, but breast-conserving surgery has the advantages of less damage and fewer complications.
