Application effect of 3D‑printed assisted modified Frosch approach surgery in Schatzker type Ⅱ tibial plateau fractures
To investigate the application effect of 3D‑printed assisted modified Frosch approach surgery in Schatzker type Ⅱ tibial plateau fractures involving the posterolateral column.
Methods
2
A total of 191 patients with Schatzker type Ⅱ tibial plateau fractures involving the posterolateral column, who were admitted to Beijing Jishuitan Hospital Guizhou Hospital from August 2023 to January 2025, were enrolled and randomly assigned to the observation group (96 cases) and the control group (95 cases) by random number table method.Patients in the observation group underwent surgery through the 3D‑printed assisted modified Frosch approach, while those in the control group received surgery through the conventional anterolateral approach. The two groups were compared in terms of the surgical‑related indicators, hospital for special surgery (HSS) score and gait parameters before and after surgery, and the occurrence of complications and joint function recovery.
Results
2
The patients in the observation group had shorter surgery time and fracture healing time, and fewer intraoperative fluoroscopies compared to the control group (
P
<
0.05). The difference in intraoperative blood loss of patients between the two groups was not statistically significant (
P
>
0.05). Three months after surgery, patients in the observation group showed better improvements in HSS scores, walking speed, step frequency, and knee range of motion than those in the control group (
P
<
0.05). Six months after surgery, there were no significant differences in the incidence of complications or the excellent recovery rate of joint function between the two groups (
P
>
0.05).
Conclusion
2
The 3D‑printed assisted modified Frosch approach is safe and reliable for the treatment of Schatzker type Ⅱ tibial plateau fractures involving the posterolateral column, which can shorten the surgery time and fracture healing time, and facilitate the early postoperative functional recovery.
