Fetal gender determination for screening of sex-linked inherited diseases by real-time PCR analysis of DNA in maternal plasma
rapid and simple method to determine fetal sex by analyzing DNA from maternal plasma. Methods Real-time PCR assay was used to detect Y chromosome specific sequences (SRY) in plasma DNA of 35 pregnant women admitted to our hospital from Nov 2004 to Mar 2005. Real-time PCR was performed in triplicate. Results Sensitivity of SRY by real-time PCR was 94.7%
and specificity was 100%. Conclusion Detection of fetal DNA from maternal plasma is a sensitive and reliable technique in non-invasive prenatal diagnosis of sex-linked inherited diseases.
