18 cases of paragonimiasis szechuanensis(P.sknjabini)were treated with praziquantel in dosage of 25 mg/kg tid for 2 successive days

(total dose 150 mg/kg)in 1981-1982 and were fol- lowed up for 6 months in 16 cases and for 3 months in 2 cases posttreatment.Among them

9 were cutaneous form with migratory subcutaneous nodules;5 were cerebral-meningeal form

4 with epilepsy and 1 with eosinophilic meningitis;3 were pleural-pulmonary form;(There were also pleural-pulmonary lesions in other forms.)1 was ocular form with unilateral exophthalmos. 4 patients of cerebral and 1 patient of ocular form were given 2 treatment courses while the last patient of cerebral form with repeated grandmal attacks received 3 treatment courses. During the follow-up examination

the migratory subcutaneous nodules in 9 patients all disap- peared;The eosinophilic pleural effusions in 4 patients and the pulmonary infiltrations in 7 patie- nts were also absorbed.The patient with unilateral exophthalmos also showed remarkably compl- ete recovery.Among 5 patients of the cerebral-meningeal form

one patient with eosinophilic meningitis completely recovered;epilepsy in 3 patients ceased

only one patient whose duration of illness was 22 months before admission continued to have minor attacks which were less frequ- ent than before. It is recommended that praziquantel is a new paragonimicidal drug

also effective in killing P.szechuanensis larva.In comparison with bithionol

it has the merits of high efficacy

low toxicity and short treatment course and is therefore worth while for further clinical trial.
