MEASUREMENT OF SERUM ANGIOTENSIN CONVERTING ENZYME IN PULMONARY DISEASES AND ITS PRELIMINARY APPLICATION
Serum angiotensin converting enzyme (SACE) activity was determined with hippuryl-glycyl-glycine (HGG) as substrate in 69 healthy adults
55 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis
46 cases of lung cancer
4 cases of lymphoma
3 cases of pneumonia and 1 case suspicious of sarcoidosis. The level of SACE in healthy adults was 35.38+8.7u (mean +SD).The difference of the level of SACE between pulmonary tuberculosis and cancer patients and healthy adults was not statistically significant. But the level of SACE activity in 1 suspected sarcoidosis was 69.45u
much higher than that of the healthy adult. We suggest that measurement of SACE activity may be taken an aid in the diagnosis of active sarcoidosis. But for pulmonary diseases other than sarcoidosis evaluation of the test awaits further study.
