Erythrocyte membrane fluidity and its relationship with fasting plasma insulin(EPI)
fasting blood glucose(FBG)and glycosylated haemoglobin(HbA1c)levels were studied in 65 noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM)The results showed that NIDDM patients had incrased erythrocyte membranemicroviscosity2.543±0.294 in 65 NIDDM vs 2.250±0.226 poise in 29 controls
P<0.01)as compared with the age-matchedcontrol group. This result suggested a decreased erythrocyte membrane fluidity in NIDDM patients.Themicroviscosity of erythrocyte membrane from diatebic subjects was significantlycorrelated FBG(r=0.227
P<0.05)and HbA1c levels(r=0.399
P<0.01)
inversely correlated with FPI(r=-0.233
P<0.05).These results indicated that erythrocyte membrane fluidity was closely related with diabetic control inNIDDM.
