This study was designed to assess the value of tilt table test in diagnosing vasovagal syncope (VVS). Fifty- five consecutive patients with VVS and 20 healthy controls underwent 60 degree Head - up tilt test (HuT)
a single-stage Isoproterenol tilt table test (ISO - HuT) or/and Nitroglycerin tilt table test (NIT- HuT) Results: The number of positive cases for HuT
ISO- HuT and NIT-HuT were 4 in 55
16 in 51 and 8 in 30 patients group compared with 2 in 20
1 in 18 and 3 in 18 healthy control group
Therofore the sensitivity of HuT
ISO- HuT and NIT- HuT was 7%
32% and 27%
respectively
and the specificity was 90%
94% and 82%
respectively. HuT is a valuable
safe and feasible method of diagnosing VVS
The use of ISO and NIT could increase the sensitivity of table tilt test
with the same high specificity
NIT-HuT is easy to be accepted becaues of few side effects.
