The nature killer (NK)activity and the subset of lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood(PBL)

ascitic fluid (EAL)and fresh tumor tissue(TIL)were studied on 31 cases of advanced ovarian carcinoma(AOC)

using MTT

ID-IF methods.The AOC showed lower NK activity

fewer CD + 3、CD + 4/CD + 8+ration in PBL

compared with normal women and women with benign tumor.Both TIL and EAL contained much fewer CD + 3

CD + 4 and B lymphocytes than PBL.The NK activity of TIL was significently decreeased.The CD + 3

CD + 4 and B ymphocytes decreased after chemtherapy too.These suggest that the immunocompetence is impaired in AOC

especially in the tumor-surrounding area

It can be further suppressed by chemotherapy.So immunotherapy should be combined with operation and chemotherapy in the treatment of AOC.
