To estimate the correlation of P53 mutation with progmosis of advance gastric carcinoma
we sclected 161 patients with gastric carcinom. imvading serosa to detect the mutation of the P53 gene by means of immunohistochemistry (IHC). Ninety - five patients(59%) showed overexpression of P53 (>10% of cell nuclei staining positively). There was no significant correlation between P53 positive and known prognostic parameters. Five years survival rate of the patients with P53 negative was 68.1% . which was significantly higher than that of the patients with P53 positive (43.3%
P=0 .24).Moreover. P53 mutation has an influence on survival in the patients with tumor more than 5cm (P=0.03) and in the patients with undifferentiated carcinoma (P=0.002)
as well as in the patients with tumor of lymph nodal mdtastases (P=0.035). In multivarite analyses
P53 mutation was still correlated with prognosis of patients of gastric cancer. The results suggested that mutation of the P53 gene may be still as an independent prognostic factor in the gastric cancers with serosa invasion.
