861 autopsies in this hospital during 1960 - 1996 were reviewed
and the average autopsy rate was 7.83 %
with lowest autopsy rate during the period from 1968 to 1977
Since 1988
the rate gradually increased to 30.77 % with an average rate 16.63% . The congenital
haemorrhagic and infectious diseases has a highest death rate in neonates and after then gradually decrease
on the contrary
the death rate of tumor inceased with age. Based upon the pathologic diagnosis
incorrect antemortem diagnosis was found in. 17.66 % . It is of interest to note that the incorrect diagnosis was higher in tuberculosis(37.20 % ) than that of tumor(22.6 % )and infectious diseases(11.19% ). This suggests that postmortem examination is still important to confirm or correct clinical diagnosis
even thouth the advanced technique was widely applied.
