Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum antibodies to glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD-Ab) and Graves’ disease. Methods: GAD-Ab were detected in 51 patients with Graves’ disease by means of enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: GAD-Ab were found in 20 out of 51 patients and the positive rate was 39.2%. The positive rate of GAD-Ab in patients with a duration of 6 months was 7.7%
which was significantly lower than that in patients with a duration of more than 6 months (P<0.01). The positive rate of GAD-Ab in patients with infiltrative exophthalmos was 57.7%
which was significantly higher than that without infiltrative exophthalmos(P<0.01). Conclusion: The determination of GAD-Ab was significant in Graves’ disease.
