Objective:To study the importance of determining serum cholinesterase in hepatopathy such as hepatitis
liver cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma. Methods: The serum cholinesterase activity and other markers reflecting liver function in 106 patients with hepatopathy
and in 41 normal controls were measured. Results:The serum cholinesterase activity in patients with liver cirrhosis and liver carcinoma was lower than that in normal controls. The level of the serum cholinesterase in patients with hepatopathy was correlated with serum total protein
albumin
proalbumin. Conclusion: The measurement of the serum cholinesterase activity may be one of the markers reflecting liver function. It has some importance to monitor the serum cholinesterase activity in patients with chronic hepatopathy.
