Brucea fruit water in oil emulsion and 5-Fu combined with Brucea fruit water in oil emulsion.Methods: From June 1998 to June 2004

289 patients with malignant pleural effusion randomized into 4 groups: biological preparation

chmotherapy

brucea fruit water in oil emulsion and brucea fruit water in oil emulsion combined with 5-Fu

and then compare the effect rate and side effects of the different medical treatments.Results: There were no significant difference between different chemical-treatment medicines

biological preparation

but with no significant difference(P>0.05).The effect only with Brucea fruit water in oil emulsion is a little better than chemical-treatment medicines and biological preparation

with no significant difference(P>0.05)

marrow restrain is much lower than chemical-treatment medicines with the difference significant(P<0.05);5-Fu combined with Brucea fruit water in oil emulsion has a higher effect rate than that of only using Brucea fruit water in oil emulsion

with the difference significant(P<0.05)

marrow restrain is lower than only using 5-Fu

with the difference significant(P<0.05).Conclusions: Brucea fruit water in oil emulsioni is an effective medicine treating malignant pleural effusion

and when combined with 5-Fu

it has a higher effect rate

reducing the side effect of 5-Fu.
