Expression and clinical significance of Notch1 and Smad4 in colorectal carcinoma
Objective: To observe the expression of Notch1 and Smad4in colorectal carcinoma and their clinical significance. Methods: Immunohistochemistry staining was used to detect the expression of Notch1 and Smad4 in 51cases of colorectal carcinoma. Results:(1) The expression of Notch1 in colorectal carcinoma was higher than that in the normal tissue(P<0.05).The expression of Smad4 in colorectal carcinoma was lower than that in the normal tissue(P<0.05)(.2)The expression of Notch1 in colorectal carcinoma was not correlated to age and sex of patients
Dukes stage and lymph node of metastasis of colorectal carcinoma(P>0.05)
except histological grading and pathological types of patients(P<0.05).(3)The expression of Smad4 in colorectal carcinoma was not correlated to age and sex of patients
histological grading of colorectal carcinoma(P>0.05)
except Dukes stage
lymph node of metastasis and pathological types of patients (P<0.05).(4)The combined check on the expression ofNotch1and Smad4 in colorectal carcinoma was correlated to histological grading
of patients(P<0.05). Conclusion: Notch1 and Smad4 may be associated with the carcinogenesis
biological behaviors and prognosis of colorectal cancer. The two factors may be used as important biological markers for colorectal cancer.
