Metformin,as a classic oral hypoglycemic agent for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, has been shown to have a positive ef-fect on bone mineral metabolism in recent years, but its mechanism of action is very complicated, including inducing osteoblast differ-entiation,reducing the number of osteoclasts, and reversing the apoptosis of osteocytes and osteoblasts directly or indirectly induced by hyperglycemia. This article reviews the research advances in this field.
