OBJECTIVE： To provide reference for improving the scientific research ability of pharmacists and medical staff in China. METHODS： Questionnaires were conducted to collect the scientific research ability data of some pharmacists and medical staff in 47 third grade class A hospitals in China， then statistics， analysis and comprehensive evaluation were carried on. RESULTS： Totally 940 questionnaires were sent out for pharmacists， 891 were effectively received with effective recovery of 94.8％； and 940 were sent out for medical staff， 790 were effectively received with effective recovery of 84.0％. The questionnaire had good reliability and validity. Pharmacists and medical staff were lack in hospital fund application， access to patents， published papers and SCI papers， proportion of affirmative answers was all less than 30％； the proportion of affirmative answers of medical staff was higher than pharmacists in attitude to scientific research and hospital fund application， but lower proportion than pharmacists in domestic journal published papers （P＜0.05）； pharmacists thought they should improve their abilities， including evidence-based literature/experimental interpretation， literature reading ability and foreign language reading. Pharmacists whose scientific research ability in excellent title were in B， D， E hospitals in Shangdong province， D， E hospitals in Shanghai province， A hospital in Shaanxi province， C hospital in Beijing and A hospital in Hubei province； while medical staff in excellent title were in B hospital in Shandong province， A， E hospitals in Shanghai， A hospital in Hubei province， B hospital in Chongqing， A hospital in Xinjiang autonomous region， A hospital of Jiangsu province and A hospital in Tianjin. CONCLUSIONS： The scientific research ability of pharmacists and medical staff in 47 third grade class A hospitals in China are still lacking， most hospitals are in general and poor titles， which explains the total scientific research ability in China has a larger space to be improved， especially the scientific research ability of pharmacists.
