OBJECTIVE: To provide reference for further improving centralized medicine procurement in public hospital. METHODS: The data of centralized medicine procurement in 2010-2014 were collected from 6 provinces/regions as Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Henan and Hunan, including generic name, bid winner and bid-winning price, etc. Statistical analysis was conducted for average number of bid-winning specifications, concentration ratio of the bid winners (absolute concentration ratio in market concentration), the distribution of bidding prices, and the difference of bidding price of same category in each province. RESULTS: The number of bid-winning specifications in Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Henan and Hunan were 13 852, 5 071, 23 518, 11 462, 17 796 and 13 742, respectively. The average number of bid-winning specifications in those provinces/regions were 6.33, 3.72, 9.89, 5.64, 7.32 and 6.85, respectively. The concentration ratio of top 3 bid winners were 3.20%, 2.64%, 3.14%, 4.16%, 2.06% and 5.46%, respectively. Bidding prices of 6 provinces/regions mainly concentrated in 0.05 to 40.00 yuan (over 60%). For 13 132 (78.36%) kinds of medicines in different provinces/regions, the highest bid price of to the lowest bid price was within 1 times. For 12 136(72.41%) kinds of medicines in 6 provinces/regions, the coefficient of variation (CV) of bidding price was less than 0.2. CONCLUSIONS: There are too many bid-winning specifications of 6 provinces/regions in central and southern China. The concentration ratio of the bid winners is in low level. There are lots of differences between the bidding price of same category in different provinces.
