Effect of detailed continuing care on self-care ability of elderly patients with HICH discharged from hospital after decompressive craniectomy
Objective To explore the effect of detailed continuing care on the self-care ability of elderly hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage(HICH) patients discharged from the hospital after decompressive craniectomy. Methods One hundred and ten elderly patients with HICH treated in a hospital in Henan Province from May 2019 to May 2021 were selected for the study. Using the random number table method
the patients were divided into a control group and an observation group
with 55 cases in each group. Patients in the control group received routine postoperative care; patients in the observation group were given detailed continuing care on the basis of the control group. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure at the time of discharge and at 6 months of discharge were compared between the 2 groups; the patient compliance scale and Exercise of Self-Care Agency(ESCA) scores at the time of discharge and at 6 months of discharge were compared between the 2 groups. Results At discharge
there was no statistically significant difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure of the 2 groups(P>0.05). At 6 months after discharge
the systolic blood pressure of patients in the control group was higher than that at discharge
and the diastolic blood pressure of patients in the observation group was lower than that at discharge
while the systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the observation group were lower than those in the control group. The differences were all statistically significant(P<0.05). At the time of discharge
there was no statistically significant difference between the total scores of the patient compliance scale of the two groups and those in terms of daily routine
diet
rehabilitation
medication compliance
and follow-up visits to the doctor(P>0.05). At 6 months after discharge
the total scores of the patient compliance scale and those in terms of daily routine
diet
rehabilitation
medication compliance
and follow-up visits of the observation group were higher than at discharge and higher than those of the control group
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusion Detailed continuing care can improve the compliance of elderly HICH patients who underwent decompressive craniectomy after discharge
