Comparison of tremor characteristics in essential tremor combined with Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor alone
Objective To compare and analyze the tremor characteristics of essential tremor(ET) combined with Parkinson’s disease(PD) with those of ET and PD. Methods One hundred inpatients admitted to the Department of Neurology of a hospital in Zhengzhou from January 2019 to January 2021 were selected for the study
and the patients were divided into group A(ET combined with PD
34 cases)
group B(ET
33 cases) and group C(PD
33 cases) according to their disease conditions. The Fahn-Tolosa-Marin Tremor Rating Scale(TRS) and electromyography were used to collect the TRS scores
tremor amplitude and peak frequency of patients in the resting
postural and task states. Results The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05) when comparing the TRS scores in the resting
postural and task states in the three groups; when compared within a group
the TRS scores in the postural and task states in the three groups were higher than those in the resting state
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05); when compared between groups
the TRS scores in each state in group A were higher than those in groups B and C
and those in groups C were higher than those in group B
with statistically significant differences(P <0.05). The differences were not statistically significant(P >0.05) when comparing the peak frequency of tremor between patients in the resting state in the three groups
and the differences were statistically significant when comparing the peak frequency of tremor between patients in the postural and task states in the three groups(P<0.05); when compared within a group
the peak frequency of tremor in the postural state in groups A and B was higher than that in the resting state
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05)
and the peak frequency of tremor in the task state in the three groups was higher than that in the resting state
with statistically significant differences(P <0.05); when compared between groups
the peak frequency of tremor in the postural state in groups A and B was higher than that in group C
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05)
and that in the task state was higher in groups A and C than in group B
with statistically significant differences(P <0.05). The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05) when comparing the patients’ tremor amplitude in different states; when compared within a group
the amplitude of tremor in the posture and task states was greater than that in the resting state
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05); when compared between groups
the amplitude of tremor in each state in group A was greater than that in groups B and C
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05)
and the amplitude of tremor in the posture state in group B was greater than that in group C while that in the resting and task states was greater in group C than in group B
with statistically significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusion Patients with ET combined with PD have both unilateral postural tremor and bilateral positional tremor
and the degree
amplitude and peak frequency of tremor were higher than those of patients with ET or PD alone in different degrees
displaying characteristics of both ET and PD while also showing certain differences.
