Effects of pulmonary rehabilitation on clinical symptoms and quality of life in patients with bronchiectasis
Objective To investigate the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation on clinical symptoms and quality of life in patients with bronchiectasis. Methods Forty-five patients with bronchiectasis treated in a hospital in Chongqing from January 2016 to February 2017 were selected as the research subjects. All patients received pulmonary rehabilitation trainings such as pursed lip breathing
diaphragmatic breathing exercise
postural drainage
and lower-limb aerobic training.The 6-minute walking distance(6 MWD)
forced expiratory volume at 1 second as a percentage of predicted value(FEV1/pre%)
body mass index(BMI)
and scores in St.George′s Respiratory Questionnaire(SGRQ)
Chinese version of the Leicester Cough Questionnaire(LCQ-MC)and the modified British Medical Research Council(mMRC)dyspnea scale of all subjects before intervention and those of them at week 12 of intervention were compared. Results After pulmonary rehabilitation
the patients′BMI and LCQ-MC scores were(24.21±5.20)kg/m2 and(16.52±1.90)points
respectively
which were significantly higher than those before intervention
the proportion of patients with mMRC grade 0 was 66.7%
which was higher than 44.4%before rehabilitation training
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After pulmonary rehabilitation
the total scores and scores in symptoms
mobility
and disease impact in SGRQ were(44.38±21.28)
(51.34±18.56)
(61.78±19.05)
and(34.21±25.09)points
respectively. All scores were lower than those before intervention
which were(61.34±21.29)
(62.23±17.11)
(70.49±20.37)
and(52.03±20.25)points
respectively
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Pulmonary rehabilitation training can improve the BMI of patients with bronchiectasis
relieve clinical symptoms
and improve the patients′quality of life. The clinical effect is significant
and it is worth popularizing and wider application.
