Prevalence of chronic diseases and its influencing factors among residents in Jiangxi province
Objective To investigate the prevalence of chronic diseases among residents aged 18 years and over in Jiangxi province and its influencing factors
so as to provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of chronic diseases. Methods The basic personal information documents in the health records of residents in Jiangxi province from 2013 to 2016 were collected randomly
and adults aged 18 years and over were selected as the research subjects.A total of 82 437 subjects were included in the study. The prevalence of chronic diseases among the subjects was described
and the influencing factors were analyzed. Results The prevalence of chronic diseases in the subjects was 18.11%.Among the types of chronic diseases
the prevalence of hypertension
diabetes
coronary heart disease
and severe mental illness was 16.22%
3.51%
0.32%
and 0.29%
respectively. The univariate analysis results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the prevalence of chronic diseases in subjects of different genders
age groups
education levels
marital status
history of drug allergies or surgery
and family history of chronic diseases(P<0.05).The prevalence of chronic diseases in female subjects was higher than that in male subjects. The older and less educated a subject
the higher the prevalence of chronic diseases. The prevalence of chronic diseases in patients with a history of drug allergies or surgery and those with a family history of chronic diseases was higher than those without one.The results of binary logistic regression analysis showed that gender
age
education
marital status
history of surgery
and family history of chronic diseases were factors influencing the prevalence of chronic diseases in the subjects.Among them
female(OR=1.276)
aged 41~64 years(OR=13.793)
aged≥65 years(OR=38.626)
married(OR=7.662)
divorced or widowed(OR=8.610)
having a history of surgery(OR=1.549)
and having a family history of chronic diseases(OR=2.962)are risk factors for chronic disease(P<0.05)
while the education level of junior high school(OR=0.939)
high school/vocational school/specialized secondary school(OR=0.941)
and specialized college and above(OR=0.850)are protective factors for chronic diseases(P<0.05).Conclusion Females
the elderly
the married
divorced or widowed
individuals with low educational level
and those with a history of surgery or a family history of chronic diseases are more susceptible to chronic diseases.Jiangxi province needs to strengthen the screening and prevention of chronic diseases
popularize relevant knowledge
provide health education to key populations
improve residents′health knowledge and strengthen their health beliefs
so that residents may have healthy behaviors and lifestyles
and the incidence of chronic diseases be reduced.
