Current status and influencing factors of dining out frequency among pregnant women in Chongqing and Lanzhou,China
Objective To investigate the difference in the frequency of dining out between first-child and secondchild pregnant women in Chongqing and Lanzhou
as well as relevant influencing factors
so as to provide evidence for the intervention of dining behaviors during pregnancy. Methods Based on the method of convenience sampling
we performed this cross-sectional survey in 2 754 pregnant women from Chongqing and Lanzhou during the period from August 2017 to June 2018.A self-administered questionnaire was used and data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results The frequency of dining out per week was higher in first-child pregnant women than that in second-child mothers(mean rank
1 415.6 vs.1 295.9
P
<
0.05).The univariate analysis showed that
the frequency of dining out per week varied significantly with parity
couple monthly income per capita
educational background
food preferences
and only-child versus non-only-child pregnant women(P
<
0.05).Specifically
first-child pregnant women
only-child pregnant women
those whose food preference was"taste"
and those with a higher couple monthly income per capita was more likely to dine out at least twice per week
while those who received higher education was more likely to dine out less than twice per week.Besides
pregnant women who dined out at least twice per week were younger than those who dined out less than twice per week(average age
29.7±4.4 vs.30.2±4.2 years
P
<
0.05);the BMI of pregnant women who dined out at least twice per week was higher than that of those who dined out less than twice per week(24.1±3.4 vs.23.7±3.1 kg/m
2
P
<
0.05).The multiple Logistic regression analysis indicated that
parity
couple monthly income per capita
only-child versus non-only-child
and food preferences were influencing factors of dining out frequency among pregnant women;second-child pregnant women(OR=0.79)and non-only-child pregnant women(OR=0.61)tended to dine out less than twice per week;pregnant women with a couple monthly income per capita of 4500~9 000 RMB(OR=1.28)and higher than 9 000 RMB(OR=1.75)
as well as those whose food preference was"taste"(OR=1.31)tended to dine out at least twice per week. Conclusion The frequency of dining out per week seems to be higher in first-child pregnant women than that in second-child mothers in Chongqing and Lanzhou. In these pregnant women
a couple monthly income per capita of at least 4 500 RMB
and"food preference is taste"are risk factors of dining out at least twice per week
while second-child and non-only-child pregnant women are protective factors of dining out at least twice per week. Thus
it is important to promote education on pregnancy nutrition for first-child pregnant women
only-child pregnant women
those with a higher income
and those having an unhealthy food preference.
