so as to provide evidence for the construction and enhancement of psychological capital for these teachers. Methods A total of 243 teachers from a Ningbo university participated in this survey. All teachers completed the Psychological Capital Questionnaire(PCQ)and a basic information form.Data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results The overall PCQ score among local university teachers was 4.29±0.61
and the sub-scale scores of self-efficacy
hope
resilience and optimism were 4.46±0.69
4.27±0.79
4.33±0.67 and 4.13±0.67
respectively. These teachers scored the highest in the sub-scale of self-efficacy
followed by resilience
hope and optimism. The overall PCQ score as well as the sub-scale scores of self-efficacy and hope were significantly higher in male teachers than female teachers(P<0.05).The overall PCQ score and all sub-scale scores varied significantly with age(P<0.05)
and the lowest scores were found in the group aged 31 to 35 years.Besides
the overall PCQ score and the sub-scale scores of self-efficacy
hope and resilience also varied significantly with academic title(P<0.05)
and those with an intermediate academic title scored the lowest. However
marital status
job type and educational background did not have any significant effects on the overall PCQ score and all sub-scale scores(P>0.05).Conclusion Local university teachers generally have a high level of psychological capital
but efforts should be made to enhance the psychological capital for some specific groups including young and middle-aged teachers(<35 years)
teachers with an intermediate academic title
as well as female teachers.
