Knee injuries in amateur basketball players and preventative measures
Objective To investigate the causes and types of knee injuries in amateur basketball players
so as to provide insights into safer training of these players. Methods A total of 200 male amateur basketball players from a Shaanxi university were surveyed.A questionnaire was used to collect data about the location
type
and main causes of knee injuries of amateur basketball plays. The collected data were statistically analyzed. Results A total of 390 injury events were reported
most commonly seen in the knee joint(26.41%)
ankle joint(16.67%)and fingers(10.26%)
and rarely seen in the hip joint(2.05%).The top 3 types of knee injuries were skin abrasion(40.00%)
meniscus injury(21.29%)
and patellar strain(14.83%);knee joint dislocation had the lowest incidence(1.29%).The top 3 causes of knee injuries were improper techniques(21.12%)
weak muscular strength(18.22%)
and inadequate warm-up exercises(10.44%);while overloading accounted for the smallest part of knee injury events(3.33%).Conclusion Basketball is a sports that may put an immense pressure on the knee joints
and as a result of this pressure
knee injuries are frequently seen in amateur basketball players. To ensure the safety of this sports
amateur basketball players should take some preventive measures such as reasonable sports load
increased training of the core strength and leg muscular strength
improved techniques
adequate warm-up exercises
and timely relaxing of lower body muscles after exercise.
