Objective To discuss the clinical effect of treating postnatal depression by combining sertraline and cognitive behavioral therapy.Method To divide 64 patients of postnatal depression hospitalized at the Kangning Veterans′Hospital of Liaoning Province and the Xingcheng Maternal and Child Care Service Center from January 2012 to June 2014 into study group and comparison group at random with each containing 32 patients.Patients of the comparison group were treated by sertraline only while those of the study group received cognitive behavioral therapy in addition to treatment with sertraline.HAMD was adopted to assess the state of depression of and the curing effect on the patients of the two groups respectively on the following timings:before treatment

one week after treatment

two weeks

four weeks

six weeks

and eight weeks after treatment respectively.Results The HAMD score differences between the two groups before and one week after treatment saw no statistical significance.Scores of the study group were markedly lower than that of the comparison group two

and eight weeks after treatment and the differences were statistically significant（P<0.05）.The overall curing effectiveness of the study group was 93.75%

which was markedly higher than that of the comparison group at 75.00%

and the differences had statistical significance（P<0.05）.The patients of the both groups saw no marked adverse reactions.Conclusion Treating postnatal depression with a combination of sertraline and cognitive behavioral therapy can effectively alleviate the state of depression of patients.Its effect is superior to the treatment with sertraline alone and is worth clinical promotion and application.
