Objective To investigate the relationship between college students′self-consciousness and their negative physical self so as to provide a theoretical basis for promoting the development of healthy psychology and the formation of healthy personality in college students.Method With self-consciousness scale and negative physical self scale

questionnaires were conducted among college students and the results were analyzed statistically.Results Negative physical self and self-consciousness were correlated（P<0.01）;short dimension was correlated with self-consciousness

private self-consciousness and public self-consciousness（P<0.01）;appearance dimension was also correlated with self-consciousness

private self-consciousness and public selfconsciousness（P<0.01 or P<0.05）.Girls scored higher than boys in all dimensions of negative physical self except the thin dimension

but the differences of scores only in fat and thin dimensions were statistically significant（P<0.01）.Rural students scored higher than urban students in the thin and overall dimensions while urban students scored higher than rural students in the negative physical self and dimensions of appearance

short and fat

the higher self-consciousness they have

the more likely they are to be dissatisfied with their own bodies.
