The Scale and Developmental Characteristics of Adolescent students’ Temporal Self-Value
Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of adolescent students for time horizon questionnaire(THQ)
and to understand the characteristics of adolescent students’temporal self-value.Methods The sample consisted of 1985 adolescents in Yunnan completed through time horizon questionnaire. Results THQ had a good internal reliability(the Cronbachαcoefficients ranged from 0.620
0
.762)
had a good split-half reliability(the Split-half coefficients ranged from 0.567
0
.731).In the sub-scale
future plans with positive psychological capital(r=0.512
P
<
0.01)and actual self(r=0.513
P
<
0.01)showed significantly positive correlation.Future value with positive psychological capital(r=0.487
P
<
0.01)and actual self(r=0.457
P
<
0.01)had significantly positive correlation.Temporal self-appraisals in young students scored 0.86;the differences of temporal self-appraisals among adolescent students with different gender
residence
family financial status
grades and single or non-single child were statistically significant(P
<
0.05 or P
<
0.01).Conclusion THQ has good reliability and validity in adolescent students and meets requirements of psychometrics
and it can be used to evaluate their temporal self-value.Contemporary young students have good temporal self-appraisals.Different gender
single or non-single child
residence and family financial status have important impacts on their temporal self-appraisals among young students.Grade One and Two in middle school is a peak for the development of temporal self-appraisals
and the sophomore year in high school is a low period for the development of temporal self-appraisals.
