Objective To evaluate the outpatient antibiotics application and irrational drug use.Method Various kinds of outpatient antibiotics and their amount were searched in the drug storehouse computer management software of the hospital of southwest university from January to June in the year 2010

and the amount and DDDs were analyzed and ranked.1 000 prescriptions were chosen at random each month and prescription drugs were statistically analyzed with a total amount of 6 000 prescriptions.Results The drug-used amount of antibiotic cephalosporins was the highest with a percentage of 45.45%;in the outpatient antibiotics with their DDDs ranking top ten

there were 3 kinds of cephalosporins;drugs with their DDDs ranking top four were amoxicillin

levofloxacin

cefuroxime and azithromycin respectively;35.64% of prescriptions concerning use of antibiotics were irrational prescriptions

and there existed problems such as irrational dosage and improper drug combination

drugs’ being used without medical indication and not in compliance with diagnosis and the like.Conclusion The utilization rate of outpatient antibiotics in our hospital is relatively high and the cephalosporins antibiotics is the most commonly used drug;there is irrational use of drug and the hospital should strengthen its monitor and management on rational use of antibiotics.
