Objective To find out contemporary college students’ attitudes towards homosexuality and their understanding of its sources

so as to provide the basis and references for sexual education and further study of homosexuality.Method 560 college students received a survey with an on-line questionnaire on condition of anonymity

and the results were statistically analyzed.Results 31.3% of these students believed there were homosexuals around them.Of them

17.0% had contact with homosexuals.72.7% tended to disapprove male homosexuality;58.2% believed that homosexuals need instructions and education by teachers.The proportions of approving and disapproving homosexual marriage were half to half;girls（60.0%）approved more than boys（39.0%）;urban students（61.0%）approve more than rural students（44.0%）;50.2% believed that homosexuality was attributed to one’s living environment.Conclusion College students are generally tolerant towards homosexuality and treat its sources objectively.There is difference in the cognition of homosexuality between different genders and between rural students and urban students.Feasible instructions are needed for developing students’ attitudes towards homosexuality

so as to improve sexual education of students and to build a harmonious society.
