Objective To analyze types of birth defects and their changes in a certain place in recent years

in order to provide the basis for developing appropriate intervention strategies.Method The information of 19 715 perinatal babies

older than 28 gestational weeks in our hospital from 2002 to 2009

were analyzed to know the incidence of birth defects.Results There were 143 confirmed cases of birth defects

and the inciderce was 0.73%;52 confirmed cases were dead

accounting for 44.83% of perinatal death.The incidence of prenatal defect in rural areas was higher than that in wrban areas.The incidence was higher when mothers-to-be were older than 35-year-old or younger than 20-year-old.Conclusion The perinatal management should be strengthened and patterns of birth defects intervention should be changed

so that the rate of birth defects could be reduced.
