Objective To investigate the situation of substance abuse in college freshmen and provide evidences for health education to carry out pertinent measures and to prevent substance abuse in college students.Method Inquired 835 freshmen enrolled in the fall 2007 at random by anonymous questionnaires in Guangdong University of Business Studies.Results In the investigation

alcohols and cigarettes addict rates in total freshmen are 2.51% and 3.11% respectively

the rates are higher in male students than that in female students and have difference in statistics（P<0.01）.Addict rate of alcohol or cigarette in the freshmen from cities is higher than those from country-side（P<0.01 or P<0.05）.The investigation indicates that the substances i.e.common anodynes
