Objective To analyze drug use as evidenced from the outpatients’ prescriptions in some local clinics for preventing chronic diseases
to establish reference points for clinical drug usages.Method Randomly sampling 6 000 outpatients’ prescriptions in the period of January through December
in 2007.Methodology was mainly based on selected drug use indicators and defined daily dosage
and statistics were obtained by Excel. Results The average number of drugs prescribed was 2.84;antibacterial agents and injections were administered to 26.87% and 17.44% of the patients
respectively.Quinolones
cephalosporins and macrocyclic lactones ranked top three in medication frequency.Combined use of antibacterial agents covered up 23.95%
mostly in oral administration
with the treatment shorter than 7 days. Conclusion The medication for the outpatients was generally rational
but it’s necessary to train the physicians to strengthen their sense of responsibilities and reasonable prescriptions
