Ultrasonographic features of breast adenosis presented with mass
Objective To analyze the ultrasonographic features of breast adenosis presented with mass for better understanding the disease and improving ultrasonic diagnosis accuracy
and therefore providing clinical guidance. Methods A total of 105 cases from the general surgery department in our hospital between January 2014 and April 2015 was retrospectively reviewed. The subjects were women with average age of 41.2±10.9
underwent ultrasonography and pathologically diagnosed as adenosis. Results Among the 105 cases of pathologically proven adenosis, ultrasound diagnosis indicated 61 cases of mammary gland disease
31 cases of fibroadenoma
4 cases of malignant breast lesions
8 cases of cyst
and 1 case of breast phyllodes tumor. Ultrasonographic findings showed that most cases appeared as hypoechoic or hypoechoic to anechoic, with regular or irregular shaped glands and clear or blurred lesion boundary. In addition
posterior echo was either enhanced at different degrees or non-changed
and the ratio of antero-posterior diameter to transverse diameter was less than 1. Color Doppler illustrated insufficient blood supply of nodules. Conclusion Small solid nodule is the most common feature of breast adenosis detected by ultrasonography. For some small lesions without obvious malignancy
ultrasonography may define them as benign. Hence
further inspection or histopathological examination is necessary for excluding their malignant possibility in breast adenosis.
